Sunfiber® – Clinically Studied, Low FODMAP Prebiotic Fiber from Guar Beans

Sunfiber-raw-material-2.webp

What is Sunfiber®?

Sunfiber® is a patented, water-soluble dietary fiber derived from the Indian guar bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba). Technically classified as partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG), Sunfiber® is a clinically studied prebiotic ingredient developed for digestive health, microbiome support, functional food applications, and advanced nutritional formulations.

Produced in Taiyo’s dedicated manufacturing facility in Aurangabad, India, Sunfiber® combines excellent formulation performance with scientifically documented gastrointestinal and metabolic health benefits.

Sunfiber® is obtained through a gentle low-temperature process in which guar bean seeds are mixed with water and enzymatically treated to extract the soluble galactomannan fiber fraction.

The result is a highly water-soluble dietary fiber with a molecular weight ranging from 20,000–40,000 Dalton. Unlike many conventional fiber ingredients, Sunfiber® remains completely soluble without significantly increasing viscosity, making it highly suitable for beverages, powders, dairy products, and nutritional applications.

Additional studies and evaluations have also investigated its role in:

  • Supporting all five barriers of the gut immune system

  • Supporting reduced energy intake in beverages

  • Supporting cold symptom management and influenza resilience

  • Supporting motivation and well-being

Low FODMAP Certified Fiber

Sunfiber® was the first stand-alone dietary fiber ingredient to receive Monash University Low FODMAP Certified™ status as part of the university’s Therapeutic Ingredients Program.

FODMAPs are poorly absorbed fermentable carbohydrates associated with gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea in individuals with functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Due to its low FODMAP profile and slow fermentation rate, Sunfiber® is suitable for sensitive digestive systems and may help support gastrointestinal tolerance compared with rapidly fermentable fibers.

Benefits for Sensitive Digestive Conditions

  • Low FODMAP certified

  • Suitable for individuals with IBS

  • Suitable for individuals with SIBO-related dietary management

  • Very slow fermentation profile

  • Reduced risk of painful gas and cramping

  • Supports both occasional constipation and diarrhea

  • Gentle gastrointestinal tolerance profile

Sunfiber® and SIBO Support

SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) is characterized by excessive bacterial colonization in the small intestine. Many individuals with SIBO reduce fiber and FODMAP intake due to symptom sensitivity.

Sunfiber® has been investigated as a well-tolerated fiber option within digestive health strategies and has also been studied in combination with rifaximin treatment approaches for SIBO management.

Functional Advantages in Food and Beverage Applications

Many traditional fiber ingredients negatively affect texture, viscosity, mouthfeel, or sensory quality. Sunfiber® was developed to overcome these formulation challenges.

Advantages Compared with Conventional Fibers

SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) is characterized by excessive bacterial colonization in the small intestine. Many individuals with SIBO reduce fiber and FODMAP intake due to symptom sensitivity.

Sunfiber® has been investigated as a well-tolerated fiber option within digestive health strategies and has also been studied in combination with rifaximin treatment approaches for SIBO management.

Sunfiber® Soluble Fiber

  • Fully water-soluble

  • No significant viscosity increase

  • Easy to consume

  • Prebiotic functionality

  • Suitable for beverages and nutritional drinks

  • Supports digestive regularity

Conventional Insoluble Fibers

  • Poor water solubility

  • Increased viscosity

  • More difficult sensory profile

  • Limited prebiotic activity

  • Less suitable for beverage systems

Because Sunfiber® is tasteless and easy to disperse, it can replace carriers such as maltodextrin while simultaneously increasing dietary fiber content in functional foods and beverages.

Applications for Sports Nutrition

Sunfiber® may also provide benefits for sports nutrition and active lifestyle formulations.

Potential Benefits for Athletes

  • Support for energy metabolism through AMPK activation

  • Support for gut immune barrier integrity

  • Support for hydration management

  • Support for short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production during high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets
